Google Business Profile Websites Are Being Shut Down

Google Business Profile Websites Shutting Down

Did you receive an email on January 8, 2024  with the subject “Important update on websites made with Google Business Profiles”?

This email states that websites made with Google Business Profiles will be turned off soon. In March, the website will redirect to their Google Business Profile, but after June, the redirect will no longer work.

What does that mean for you?

Your customers will only be redirected to your Business Profile until June 10, 2024. After that date, customers will get a “page not found” error when attempting to visit your website.

If you still want a website on the Internet you need to quickly come up with a solution to redesign your site.

Googles suggestion for a quick solution is to use another hosted site builder like Google Sites, Wix or Squarespace.  The potential issues with this are:

  1. You need to spend time researching these options to figure out what new hosted platform works best for you.
  2. You need to then learn how to use the new platform to migrate your current site into the new system.
  3. If you have a custom domain name, you need to know how to migrate it your new website.

After this, you are still at the mercy of another hosted solution. If they decide to shut down, you are going to be going through this process again.

What Options Do You Have?

Site builders are not the only way to build a website.  They are an option for  DIY users that need a simple site quickly.  The downsides are that you are stuck with the limited features they offer, little customer support,  and you are at their mercy if they decide to shut down.
