This customer was happy with the overall website design of her site, but there were some code issues to address to optimize the display. I reviewed her website and made recommendations to clean up old code for a better user experience while keeping the website design the same.
The following code changes were made.
Flash slideshow images were converted to Jquery
There are many reasons not to use Flash on your website. A couple big ones are that it has no benefit for search engine optimization and mobile devices like iPhones and Blackberry do not support Flash. If you can accomplish the same effect with different technology, use it.
Java Script menus with images and mouse overs were converted to simply HTML/CSS code
Converting this helped with page download size, and search engine optimization.
Images were resized and compressed
Images were resized to the display size rather than forced to size using html. Images were also compressed to reduce size. This change helped in overall page download time.
Code was rewritten to behave responsively respective to the device size.
The original code was written prior to mobile devices being popular. Code was rewritten so the design would respond to the screen size rather than the user having to scroll around the page to see it on a small screen. The menu changes on small screens to make it more user friendly now and content stacks vertically for much easier reading.
